Less to move, less to fail

Typical sound systems are big and bulky, requiring significant manpower to set up. One of the things that Void has accomplished is producing the same amount of SPL (sound pressure level — how loud a system actually gets) with a quarter of the cabinets. So there is less to move, less to set up, fewer components to fail.

Built for beauty

The 2nd thing they are addressing is the boring look of typical cabinets. The styling of Void cabinets coexists with the shrinking size of the cabinets. The design/art/look of the cabinets brings them to the forefront of the event, instead of in the shadows.

To accomplish this, Void developed new driver technology. Their drivers handle roughly four times the power of the average manufacturer. The strength lies in high impedance and high voltage, which lets us run significantly more energy for better control and accuracy.

Energy, then control

Here is the other magic: most systems have one or two drivers per cabinet, but Void runs 4–8 drivers per cabinet bringing the total capacity to 3000–6000 watts for just one cabinet. That enables us to run 20,000 watts on bass or on highs with just 6 cabinets. This means louder, but also bigger energy, which means more control, which means better sound quality.

Drivers that handle that much power need an amplifier that can deliver it without taking up more room. Void changed how their amplifiers receive energy, running at higher voltage: most amplifiers are single or dual phase at 120 volts, while Void’s are 3-phase at 208/400 volts. The amps run on higher voltage, letting us produce more power in smaller rack spaces.
